PREFACE

Praise be to Allah! All praise belongs to Allah, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon our Prophet, his family, friends and all his followers and ummah!
The book in your hand; It has been prepared for those who have started to learn the religion, and it contains works that have not been left untouched for many years since the Ottoman Empire. We have taken care to simplify this book in contemporary language as necessary to assist the reader.
Since the catechism with the spear will be printed with Islamic letters, we thought it would be beneficial to simplify the old Turkish words used. That's why we sometimes simplified the entire sentence or paragraph. By explaining some words in parentheses, we took care to keep the original form of the word and not be forgotten. Since the original version of the text will already be written in Islamic letters on the other page, we have given importance to use plain and modern Turkish. In addition, we have added titles that are not in the original text for easier understanding of the book. We tried to open the closed issues in the book with footnotes, we consulted the sources from time to time for a better understanding of the issue and explained them in the footnotes. We also gave explanations to Ömer Nesefi Akaidi from time to time.
The hadith-i sharifs added are generally the hadiths chosen by our Master, His Holiness. In addition, our master's "Iman and Islam Treatise" was written in today's letters, but the original of the text has been preserved. No simplifications or additions were made to the text. But we dropped some footnotes. The prayers at the end of the book are the shields and weapons that every Muslim will use daily, and we have translated them. Because we wanted to emphasize that the essential thing in prayer is to read knowing the meaning of what we read. Our Prophet (peace be upon him) said that "prayer is the weapon of the Muslim".
If we can contribute to the correct understanding of these books, which our craftsmen have always read and left, we will consider ourselves lucky.
May Allah be our protector and helper.

A few words about the catechism and the spearman catechism
The term ilm-i hal, which means "behavioral knowledge" in the dictionary; It can be defined as "a handbook containing concise information about belief, worship, practices, moral issues, occasional great prophets, and the life of the Messenger of Allah". Catechisms mostly contain the issues that everyone should know.
the science of fiqh; In the historical process, it has reached the level of maturity and perfection in order to find answers to the issues that took place from the second century to the middle of the fourth century and to reach the expanding Islamic lands. In this period, the legal opinions of various sects were brought together and the works were compiled. First, concise works in the form of treatises, then voluminous books were written, and then long annotations and annotations were compiled. However, these sources appealed to scholars more. Later on, there was a need for works that contained concise information on basic subjects, whose language was simple, whose narration was simple, and even suitable for memorization. In order to meet this need, the books in which the basic religious information that every Muslim should know according to his situation were written concisely and in accordance with a certain sectarian tradition, constituted the first examples of the Catechism tradition in the Islamic society.
Catechism can be described as the most widely read, even memorized and still important fiqh book in Ottoman society. Catechisms played a huge role in the learning of basic religious knowledge in society. Because, although they vary according to the time and geography where people live, these works mostly contain information that every Muslim should know.
It is not known when the Spearman Catechism was written. The topics are written in a messy way. Despite these features, it influenced the religious understanding of the society in which it was published, gained great fame among the people and gained the title of being a bedside book by many people.
One of the things that makes the catechisms different in terms of style and method; is that the information to be conveyed is presented in short and simple sentences. The information contained in the catechisms; Rather than being written in a long, literary or complete fiqh language, it is written in a simple and publicly understandable language. This is mostly because their interlocutors are not scientists but the people.
For this reason, Catechisms can be understood by individuals from all strata of the Muslim society, especially since they are addressed to the public.
